Climate

Greece has a Mediterranean climate. The biggest feature of this climate is dry summers and rainy winters, so it hardly rains except in winter. The whole territory enjoys sufficient sunshine, with each region receiving an average of more than 2,000 hours of sunshine per year. The lowest temperature occurs in January and February, and the highest temperature occurs in July and August. The average temperature in January is 13 degrees Celsius, and the average temperature in July and August is 33 degrees Celsius. But in winter there is snowfall in the mountains and even in Athens.

Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a recorded history of more than 3,000 years. Athens is now the eighth largest city in Europe. Athens is also one of the commercial centers of the European Union. The urban population is 3.3 million, and together with the suburban population, the total population is 3.8 million. The city covers an area of 39 square kilometers, and including suburbs it covers an area of 412 square kilometers.
